Fairfax is a small town with a population of 7500, home to many local artists and musician. It is an environmentally friendly and eco-conscious community in central Marin County. It is by far the most progressive city in Marin. Fairfax has initiated many "green" ordinances, such as preventing chain stores and no Styrofoam takeout containters or plastic bags. Fairfax has a very unique "hippie" culture that is unlike that of any other Marin city. It thrives on its laidback yet colorful nightlife with several bars, restaurants, and live music venues. Fairfax also has abundant opportunities for the outdoors person, including endless trails for hiking and mountain biking.
